There are times when a call to action comes at the most unexpected moment. Such was the case a few weeks ago. This blog was started several years ago but has been on hold for two years. There are several reasons for the inactivity one of which was the author's questioning the value of the blog. Was anyone reading and if so was what they read of any significance? Was it the proper use of time management? Why continue if there is no real means of determining the impact the blog may have on the readers? If these questions were answered to the satisfaction of the author would it make any difference?
This author was teaching a class when one of the students mentioned she had read the author's blogs and found them interesting. Yes, I know the first thought that comes to mind is the student trying to flatter her way into a better grade. But this was a pass/fail class with no real incentive to utilize such tactics. The seed was planted for the return to the blog. It had been so long since a new post was made, the password for access to the post page had escaped memory. Several attempts were made to access the blog account to no avail. It became too much trouble to continue and the author didn't feel the need to push any further. However, the final session for the class was this past Tuesday night. The same young lady approached the teacher wanting to know when a new post would appear. She informed the author that the posts were meaningful enough for her that she emailed them to some of her friends. The author explained that his attempt to reopen the blog was met with barriers. The young lady was somewhat insistent that the author keep trying.
Well, he did. The password issue was resolved, the author rediscovered the way to create new posts, and the excuses for not blogging were removed. Now the issue is what is the author going to do about it?
He's going to write - that's what. Sometimes it takes being hit with a two-by-four to wake us up. Isn't it nice when someone encourages us to act on what we know we should be doing. A huge thank you to that young lady for not accepting no as an excuse.
